Salon Sustainability

The framework that Little Birdie Hair Co (LBHC) was built upon is one that relies on economic sustainability. The salon was constructed with every detail considered for eco-friendly alternatives. From the way the towels are washed, recycled hair, the salon’s fit out, compostable cups, to the way the staff and clients are educated, sustainability is a way of life at LBHC. Not only are there a copious amount of measures taken to ensure the salon creates as little waste as possible, the staff are genuinely passionate about creating this eco-friendly environment and recycle everything from product packaging to the cut hair! LBHC staff members continue to educate all clients on the sustainable methods taken within the salon and are proud to spread the salon ethos.

Since winning the award for best eco-salon in Australia, we wanted to give you a behind the scenes look at why we take sustainability so seriously, and how we secured this title with our in-salon procedures.

After suffering from chemical poisoning during two of her pregnancies, salon owner Tenille said enough was enough and decided to open a space where staff and clients could get hair care without the health impact. Most people may not know that many salon quality products contain harmful chemicals, and when exposed to these frequently, staff and those at risk can really suffer.

By utilising products at Little Birdie that are organic, vegan and safe, the risk of most chemical related health risks are mitigated. In addition to the health of staff and clients, Tenille was also concerned about the health of our earth and community. By putting procedures in place to create an eco-friendly salon, the Little Birdie footprint is minimal.
